AI literacy: what does the EU AI Act require from your organisation?
BudgetAI.nl editorial team · 2026-10-28 · 5 min
Since February 2025 the EU AI Act requires organisations to ensure a sufficient level of AI literacy among staff who work with AI. In practice, your people need to know what AI can do, where it goes wrong and how to use it responsibly.
This article explains what that means day to day and how to take an affordable first step.
What is AI literacy?
AI literacy is the knowledge and skill to use AI tools consciously. It's not about programming but about everyday work: knowing when you can trust an AI answer, what information you should or shouldn't put into an AI tool, and how to check the result.
What does this mean for your organisation in practice?
Everyone who works with AI needs to know enough about it. How much depends on their role and how AI is used. For most office staff it comes down to a few basic skills:
- Understanding what an AI assistant can and can't do
- Recognising hallucinations: invented sources, numbers or names
- Knowing which company data stays out of AI tools
- Knowing your team's agreements on AI use
- Checking answers before you use them
What affordable first steps can you take?
You don't need to launch a big training programme straight away. Start small and practical:
| Step | Product | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Brief the team in a meeting | Working Safely with AI presentation | €49 |
| Learn to spot errors through play | Fact or Fable | €349 |
| Live training for a group | Copilot or Claude Kickstart | €595 |
With the Working Safely with AI presentation you brief your own team on privacy, checking sources and agreements. With the escape game Fact or Fable your team practises spotting AI errors in a fun way. And with the Copilot Kickstart or Claude Kickstart your team learns the basics in 90 minutes.

How do you approach it in four steps?
- Map out who in your organisation works with AI.
- Decide what basic knowledge everyone needs.
- Choose a first activity: a presentation, game or training.
- Record agreements on AI use and repeat them regularly.
Is training enough?
Training is a practical first step towards the AI literacy the EU AI Act requires. It is not legal advice and not a certificate. For the legal side, consult a specialist.
